CPAC/Police Update
The following are some quick notes from the Wednesday night meeting between
Police Director Santiago and the CPAC leaders. -- jc
CPAC have gone from 4 to 3 reflecting patrol districts Alpha (West), Bravo
(North/East), Charlie (East/South).
Number 1 item, Department reorganized and Deputy Chief positions abolished.
Captains increased from 10 to 13. This really reflects changes made last
fall.
New department organization chart explained.
Director Santiago addressed many areas of concern. Since being appointed a
year ago, he has worked to simplify the classification system for calls for
service. This has helped reduce response times.
The Academy is now offering Supervisor training to promotion candidates etc.
Newly graduated officers are now given a quick exposure to all parts of the
policing Trenton before being turned loose on patrol to make them more well
rounded.
Upcoming announcement that overall crime numbers as reported to FBI are
down. Thefts are up considerably, especially car break-ins. There are some
reporting issues that could lower the number (shoplifting, etc.) Aggravated
assaults are up signivicantly.
Habitual offenders are being identified and looking at ways to deal with
them.
Bicycle patrols will be reinstated and deployed in a different manner.
Of 15 police dogs only 3 were trained as drug sniffers. New training and
such will provide department with 6 more that can either sniff drugs or
firearms, etc.
Steps are being taken to address the problem of horse dung. Clean ups will
take place
Thefts from cars continue to be a problem Please notify Police of anyone
selling second hand auto electronics (radios, cd players, etc.)

Help!
Help is needed to save a Trenton neighborhood from the wrecker's ball. With
the help of a grant from the NJ Historical Commission, the Trenton
Preservation Committee is seeking National Register status for a portion of
South Trenton. In order to make this possible short descriptions of each of
the hundreds of buildings in the area need to be written. Volunteers have
already done several hundred, but there are many more to do. The target for
completing this process is early March, so two dates have been set to get
together as a group & plow through the remaining work.
Thursday, February 26th, anytime after 5 pm at the "Cottage" in Cadwalader
Park.
This is the yellow park administration building off to the right as you
enter the park from Parkside Avenue.
If you can't make this date, it is hoped that the description writing can be
wrapped up on Sunday, March 7th starting at 9 am at the office of Clarke
Caton Hintz located in the old West Trenton Train Station Building in West
Trenton off of Sullivan Way in West Trenton.
